Following a widely praised inaugural edition, Retroformat Silent Films, in partnership with the American Cinematheque and the Mount Saint Mary’s University Graduate Programs in Film, Television, and New Media, proudly announces the return of the Los Angeles Silent Film Festival (LASFF), the weekend of September 11 - 13, 2026, at the American Cinematheque at the Los Feliz 3.
The festival’s debut in 2025 featured rare restorations, world preservation premieres, and special presentations celebrating the artistry and legacy of silent-era cinema, drawing enthusiastic audiences and scholars from across Southern California. Building on that momentum, the Los Angeles Silent Film Festival will once again present a weekend devoted to the celebration, study, and enjoyment of silent cinema. The 2026 festival will feature an exceptional program of classic and rarely screened works, special presentations, and distinguished guests, with the full schedule to be announced in the coming months.
The Los Angeles Silent Film Festival is a program of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Retroformat Silent Films, an organization dedicated to the preservation, exhibition, and appreciation of silent-era motion pictures.

We are deeply proud of the striking visual identity created for the first Los Angeles Silent Film Festival by J.C. Wenhold, our Graphic Designer and Marketing Specialist. From our official poster to every piece of artwork associated with this inaugural year, J.C.’s designs capture the spirit of discovery, elegance, and timeless beauty that define silent cinema itself. His thoughtful compositions and attention to detail bring a fresh modern energy to images more than a century old.
J.C.’s portfolio reflects the same blend of artistry and clarity that make his work so integral to our festival’s success. His designs for the Los Angeles Silent Film Festival have helped us communicate not only what we do, but why we do it, with grace, imagination, and a profound respect for the art form we celebrate.
